Text Box: Yukon BMX March 2009 Newsletter

Text Box: We are going to try a new incentive program for volunteers. If you volunteer on a race day or practice day you will get a $4.00 off race fee volunteer voucher. This means that a ribbon race with this voucher will cost you $3.00. You may upgrade to a trophy (at the time of sign up) for an additional $3.00 making a trophy race only $6.00! There are around 9 race day volunteers needed each race day. We need a gate starter, stager, three turn officials, finish line, sign ups/registration and concessions. These will be the only positions that will receive the volunteer vouchers. You will need to contact Kristi McCloskey the week before that race if you want to volunteer at that weekend’s races in order to be eligible to receive the volunteer voucher. This is in hopes of getting our volunteers lined up prior to the races. The kids are counting on you wonderful parents to volunteer and make their race experience as awesome as it can be. We know the economy is tough right now and this is our way to give back to you, the parents of our track, and at the same time you are helping the track. On practice days we need parents to volunteer to work the concession stand, someone to run the gate for the evening and a watchful eye or two on the track looking for helmets, downed riders, etc. We will also be offering these vouchers for track maintenance work days. We will be happy to train you in any of these positions, none of them are hard or require any special experience. We want your help. You are very important to us. You can contact Kristi about the new volunteer program at 885-9098 or Kristimccloskey@cox.net. Thank you to the parents that have already made a difference at Yukon BMX!

Text Box: ABA Super National’s to be held in Desoto Texas!
Text Box: March 20th-22nd 2009 is the date set for this year’s Super National’s in Desoto, Texas. Yukon BMX will not be racing that weekend since it is so close to Oklahoma and many of us are planning on attending this national. When there is a big race that close to Yukon BMX we respectfully will not be holding races. The Super National’s are always a really good National to attend. For anyone who isn’t familiar with an ABA National just come to the sign up window at a race or practice and ask us about it and we’ll give you any information we can. You can also visit the ABA’s web site at www.ababmx.com for more information about the weekend schedule and area hotel’s.

Text Box:  Be sure to wear your safety equipment each time you are at the track. Helmets must be worn anytime you are on the track, even when we are closed. A few of us have been out at the track on closed days and have seen some of you riding and not wearing your helmet.

Text Box: Last month’s newsletter mentioned that we are hosting our 2nd annual Cinco de Mayo race on May 5th 2009. We asked that parents start bringing to the track bags of individually wrapped candy (no gum please) to be donated for the piñata’s. Please help us out and bring those bags of candy next time you come to the track.

Text Box: Track rules
Text Box: Please be sure to familiarize yourself with our track rules as well as the ABA rules. We want to do everything we can to make this a family  friendly environment. If you do not have a copy of the rules please grab one at the sign up window.

Text Box: Good Sportsmanship!
Text Box: Let’s all help promote a healthy environment with good sportsmanship at our track, parents and riders alike. Parent’s remind your kids to congratulate each other off of the finish line after a race. Parent’s can pay it forward by helping a new parent out when they join our track. Younger siblings can be reminded to play nice in the sand box. Everyone cheer for your favorite racer, the louder you are the faster they race! Little things like this make a BIG difference.
